Our History

BENEDICT CORPORATION
105 YEARS And Still Driving FORWARD...

BENEDICT CORPORATION is a Subaru GMC Pontiac Cadillac dealership offering new and pre-owned vehicles, as well as service and parts departments, collision repair center, detail center, and automobile rentals.

BENEDICT CORPORATION is currently owned and operated by Noel (Trip) deCordova III. Trip began his tenure at Benedict's in 1980 and became owner in 1995.

John N. Benedict from Sherburne, New York began BENEDICT CORPORATION in 1905. Originally known as the J.N. Benedict Corporation, the dealership had offices in Sherburne and Binghamton and featured franchises with Cadillac and Reo. They also sold Frigidaire appliances. Trip's grandfather, Carl E. Fribley, owned and operated Benedict's from 1932 until his death in 1969. Trip's uncle, Peter deCordova, operated the dealership from 1971 until 1994. All three owners depended heavily upon the late Nelson Benedict, who was vice president of the company from 1933 until 1976 when he retired. "You can't stay in business for 105 years unless you're treating your customers with respect and great care. In fact, our reputation is made or lost from each individual sale," says third-generation owner Trip deCordova.

deCordova says the Norwich-based dealership's success relies heavily upon its reputation within the community it serves. He personally strives to shop locally and gives his name and charitable donations back to the community that Benedict's depends on. He voluntarily coached the Chenango Chargers soccer team for twelve years, in addition to to coaching the varsity soccer team for Oxford Academy in 1997. The company's corporate sponsorships include many arts-related endeavors such as the Chenango County Council of the Arts, Colorscape Chenango, the Chenango Blues Festival, the Phoenix Danse Theater, and many local school plays. The business also annually supports the United Way, Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich YMCA, Rotary, Norwich SPCA, and Oxford Memorial Library, to name a few.

In 1990, Trip made a substantial investment in the Town of Norwich by deciding to purchase the dealership from Peter deCordova, and move his granfather's dealership from its longtime location in downtown Norwich. "It was very difficult but the right business decision. The town has been very supportive of our continued growth here," he said. Benedict's added a larger service department, collision center and detail center in 2002 and continues to provide its certified technicians with current state-of-the-art training, tools and equipment. In designing the facility, serious attention was paid to employee safety, environmental concerns and customer satisfaction.

BENEDICT CORPORATION is proud to employ thirty-plus employees and believes the dealership wouldn't be what it is today without each of them. "Chenango County is not only a great place to do business, but a great place to raise a family and enjoy life," says Trip.
